Key Responsibilities
Perform final quality checks on a variety of content, including (but not limited to):
Blog posts, articles, and web copy
Marketing materials (brochures, emails, ad copy)
Manuscripts, eBooks, and print books
Business documents (reports, whitepapers, presentations)
Correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax errors.
Ensure consistency in style, tone, formatting, and layout according to the provided style guide (e.g., AP, Chicago, MLA, or in-house guide).
Check for proper hyphenation, capitalization, and font usage.
Verify accurate page numbers, headers/footers, and table of contents.
Flag any inconsistencies in facts, dates, or names for review.
Ensure text is logical and easy to read, without rewriting or substantial editing.
Meet agreed-upon deadlines and communicate proactively about project status.
What We're Looking For (Qualifications)
Required:
Proven experience as a Proofreader, Copy Editor, or similar role.
An impeccable grasp of the English language, including deep knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation rules.
Exceptional attention to detail and a hawk-eyed ability to spot typographical errors.
Familiarity with at least one major style guide (AP, Chicago, MLA, etc.).
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, specifically using Track Changes and Comment features.
Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet tight deadlines.
Excellent communication skills.
Preferred (Nice-to-Haves):
Experience proofreading in the [Your Industry, e.g., legal, medical, academic, fiction] sector.
Experience working with PDF mark-up tools (e.g., Adobe Acrobat Pro).
A degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
Certification in editing or proofreading.
