St. Margaret's Hospital provides extensive medical services including Chinese and Western medicine, dentistry, as well as services tailored for the elderly, teenagers, children, families, education, and basic housing. Up to now, it operates 121 service units across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and New Territories, providing appropriate aid and support to over 1.9 million beneficiaries annually. The long history of St. Margaret's Hospital began in 1919 when local residents founded it as a small clinic offering free medical services. It temporarily closed during World War II but was reopened in 1951 under the initiative of Governor Alexander Grantham. In the 1960s, expansions were carried out with the addition of new beds, operating theaters, laboratories, and X-ray rooms. In 1998, the government announced plans for reconstruction of St. Margaret's Hospital, which was completed in 2007, aiming to expand and modernize hospital facilities to better serve society.
