Hello NIME community,
We are looking for one individual engineer / creative technologist to help develop a gestural musical instrument built around rich continuous sensor data rather than simple on/off control.
The hardware produces data from pressure and motion sensors, and the goal is to transform that input into an expressive, performance-ready musical system — something closer to a true instrument than a controller.
We are specifically looking for someone who can work across the following areas:
sensor-to-sound mapping
gesture design and expressive interaction
real-time musical control
MIDI / OSC workflows
prototyping in environments such as Max/MSP, Ableton Live, SuperCollider, Pure Data, or similar
ideally some experience with gesture recognition, sensor fusion, or ML-assisted mapping
The ideal person is not just a general software engineer, but someone with experience in:
We need help designing and prototyping the musical interaction layer, including:
interpreting multidimensional sensor data musically
defining gestures, postures, and expressive controls
building a playable real-time prototype
shaping the system into something performance-ready and artistically compelling
Strong fit if you have experience with
wearable / gestural instruments
Max/MSP or Max for Live
embedded sensor workflows
interactive music systems
custom MIDI / OSC tools
expressive mapping for performance
audiovisual / live performance systems
