The company's predecessor was City Telecom, renaming itself Hong Kong Television Network Limited in 2012 after selling its main business, Hong Kong Broadband Network, and attempting to enter the free-to-air television market in Hong Kong. However, in March 2018, HKTV announced its abandonment of its television business, publicly stating its focus would shift towards its online shopping platform - HKTVmall, withdrawing its application for a free-to-air television license and returning mobile TV licenses to the Hong Kong Communications Authority.
