SMBHK, abbreviated from Shing Mun Brewery (Hong Kong) Limited, is a brewer with a profound history and rich heritage. Since its inception in 1890 by La Fabrica de Cerveza de San Miguel in Manila, Philippines, producing San Miguel Beer, it embarked on a journey across the ages. In 1914, the company began exporting San Miguel Beer to Hong Kong, and in 1948, it acquired Hong Kong Brewers and Distillers Ltd., founded in Sham Shui Po in 1930 by Jehangir Hormusjee Ruttonjee. This acquisition not only solidified its position in the Hong Kong market but also led to the renaming of the company as San Miguel Brewery Ltd. in 1963, followed by the official adoption of the current name: SMBHK, on March 25, 1994. As a subsidiary of San Miguel Brewing International Ltd., SMBHK enjoys a reputation both locally and internationally, expanding its operations to Macau, Guangzhou, and Guangdong Province in China. Leveraging its extensive product line and robust international distribution network, SMBHK successfully propagated its brand influence globally. Its product portfolio includes diverse brands such as San Miguel Pale Pilsen (domestic and imported from the Philippines version), San Miguel Premium All-Malt, San Mig Light, San Miguel Cerveza Negra, Blue Ice, Brück Knight, Polar Ice, Valor, among others. It further enriched its product range by introducing international renowned brands like James Boag's, Samuel Adams, Kirin Ichiban, Kirin Lager, and Kirin Stout, catering to varied consumer tastes. With the closure of its old factory in Sham Shui Po in 1996, SMBHK invested in a new brewery in Yuen Long, symbolizing its transition into a new era while continuously enhancing production efficiency and product quality to meet growing market demands. The development history of SMBHK not only bears witness to its transformation from local to global, but also reflects its relentless pursuit of product innovation and quality management.
