Job Description

Focuses on private market deals, including early-stage and growth-stage investments. This manager will source high-potential deals, lead due diligence, negotiate transactions, and manage relationships post-investment.

Responsibilities:

• Deal Sourcing: Proactively source and identify investment opportunities in the primary markets – including early-stage startups and growth-stage companies. Leverage industry research, networking, and market knowledge to build a pipeline of high-potential deals in sectors aligned with the fund’s strategy.

• Due Diligence: Lead comprehensive due diligence on target investments. This entails evaluating business models, analyzing financial statements and projections, assessing competitive positioning, and reviewing legal/regulatory compliance. The manager will compile thorough investment analysis and due diligence reports to inform investment committee decisions.

• Investment Execution: Participate in deal negotiations and structuring. Assist in designing transaction terms (valuation, ownership structures, exit provisions, etc.) and work with legal teams to drive the signing of investment agreements. Post-investment, oversee the closing process and ensure a smooth handover to portfolio management.

• Portfolio Management & Monitoring: Post-investment, monitor the performance of portfolio companies. Maintain regular communication with company management, track key performance indicators, and provide strategic support or governance oversight as needed. Produce regular analysis reports on portfolio company performance and market developments to guide timely decisions (e.g., follow-on investment, exit planning).

• Networking & Relationships: Maintain strong relationships with venture capital firms, incubators, industry experts, and entrepreneurs to expand deal-sourcing channels. Represent the firm at industry events in Hong Kong and the region, and build a network that can generate high-quality investment leads and partnerships. By cultivating these networks, the manager keeps a pulse on industry trends and emerging opportunities.

Requirements:

• Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree or above is required, preferably in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field. An advanced degree can be an asset, but practical investment acumen and industry knowledge are paramount.

• Experience: Minimum of 3+ years in primary market investments such as venture capital, private equity, or related fields (e.g. investment banking with exposure to PE/VC deals). Experience at a reputable investment firm, investment bank, or tech-focused fund is a strong plus. A track record of having evaluated or closed deals in early/growth stage companies will be highly valued.

• Language Skills: Fluency in English is required – candidates must confidently use English as a working language for investment memos, presentations, and cross-border meetings. Mandarin proficiency is also required, as many deals involve China or Chinese-speaking stakeholders. Cantonese is a plus (given the Hong Kong context), though not mandatory for all candidates; it will help in local networking and due diligence.

• Financial & Analytical Skills: Solid financial analysis capabilities, including proficiency in valuation modeling (DCF, comparables, etc.) and understanding of financial statements. The candidate should be familiar with the typical processes of primary market investing – from term sheets to closing – and have knowledge of relevant laws and regulations (such as Hong Kong and mainland China regulations on private investments, cross-border capital flows, etc.).

• Strategic Insight: Strong industry insight and logical thinking skills. The candidate should be able to quickly grasp new industry trends (e.g. fintech, AI, biotech, etc.) and assess the potential of business models. The role requires the ability to think critically and make sound judgments on which opportunities to pursue.

• Communication & Collaboration: Excellent communication and people skills. The candidate will need to coordinate effectively with various parties – internal investment committees, external lawyers/auditors, founders of startups – and must handle high-pressure negotiations or tight timelines with professionalism. Being able to clearly articulate investment rationales and construct persuasive arguments is crucial.

• Resilience & Adaptability: A demonstrated ability to thrive in a high-pressure work environment. Primary market deals can involve unforeseen challenges; the candidate should be resourceful and resilient, capable of navigating complex situations to achieve favorable outcomes.

• Network and Deal Flow: Candidates with an existing network of high-quality project resources or deal-sourcing channels are highly advantageous. In venture and private equity, having access to proprietary deal flow – through industry contacts, alumni networks, etc. – can significantly amplify success.
