Work Responsibilities (Responsibilities)
·Supervise film technicians and be fully responsible for the relevant affairs of the Hong Kong Film Archive (HKFA) film workshop, including but not limited to providing training and guidance to laboratory technicians and film inspection technicians, assisting them in handling, inspecting and restoring film data.
·Provide technical advice to the representative of the film preservation group of the film archive, including but not limited to knowledge-based information about the Hong Kong film industry, film preservation and restoration technology, digitalization and pre-restoration screening suggestions for films.
·Support public education activities, introduce film workshops to visitors, students and trainees, serve as the keynote speaker for lectures, and participate in interviews or film shootings to promote activities.
·Independently conduct technical checks on historical film materials, including positive film, image negative, optical sound track negative, and subtitle negative, etc., and evaluate their preservation status.
·Execute historical film processing, cleaning, restoration and detailed recording work to ensure data integrity and traceability.
·Assist in the correct extraction and transportation of historical film materials stored in warehouses and workshops, including packaging, unpacking, transportation and shelving procedures.
·Prepare and save historical film materials before and after subsequent preservation work (such as digital scanning, data retrieval, loaning, etc.).
· Independently operate a digital scanner to convert historical films into digital images and sound files.
· Check and correct the parameter settings in the scanning process to ensure that digital images and sound files meet the quality standards for storage and subsequent production/repair.
·Execute other film processing tasks assigned by the Film Preservation Group representative of the Film Archive.
Requirments
· Completion of Form 3 secondary Education
· At least 5 years experience in handling, inspecting and repairing motion picture film materials with 2 years in historic nitrate film materials in a motion picture film archive, lab or production company.
· 2 years experience in film scanning and digital restoration
· Knowledge of simple written Chinese and English and fluent in spoken Cantonese, and
· Proficient in Traditional Chinese and English data entry
