Paperclip Design (www.paperclipdesign.hk) is an award-winning industrial design consultancy focusing on aviation and transportation seating products. Our core value is innovation, simplicity and elegance, and we are known for our inventive, functional solutions for tight spaces. We work in partnerships with companies internationally, and we do a lot of R&D work in-house for our new concepts. Our sister company Butterfly Flexible Seating Solutions Ltd (www.butterflyseating.com) commercializes our flexible seating concepts.

As a small team, we have a flat corporate structure- each member of the team has great impact on the future direction of the company. We are based in Fotan, and our own 5,000 sqft workshop is well-equipped with various machines such as laser-cut, CNC, & 3D printers. On the side we also run a co-working makerspace with lively community of creative startups.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for a junior mechanical design engineer to help bring our concepts to life. You’ll mainly be assisting our engineers in the entire product development life-cycle, which includes prototyping, CAD design, technical drawings, sourcing, testing of components, as well as liaising with manufacturers or suppliers. You’ll also help manage our 5,000 sqft workshop to make sure it functions smoothly.

If you are passionate about mechanical design, enjoy solving challenging problems, and have an urge to build things in a hands-on manner, we want you to join us. We are looking for a versatile team player who can think outside the box and come up with smart solutions.

You should be willing to travel globally for projects and to China for working with suppliers, flexible with working hours (occasionally) due to our international partner base, and comfortable with using English as well as Mandarin to work with overseas suppliers and diverse team members. And, being in a small team, you should also be open to performing various non-engineering-related tasks that support the growth of a start-up.

Roles & Responsibilities

· Develop technical solutions in CAD based on given constraints & requirements

· Design and build mockups with refined techniques such as laser-cut, 3D printing, CNC

· Sourcing for components and running tests to measure their level of function

· Prepare product drawings and technical documents

· Communicate with suppliers and manufacturers to facilitate/optimize the manufacturing process

Qualifications & Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree or above in mechanical engineering or related fields

· Preferably at least 1- 2 years’ experience in mechanical design. Fresh graduates will also be considered.

· Experience/understanding of manufacturing process is a plus

· Proficiency in at least 1 major CAD software (preferably Solidworks)

· Proficiency in English (TOEFL score > 100) & Mandarin

Salary & Benefits

· HK$18,000 – HK$22,000 per month depending on experience

· Up to 1-month performance-based bonus

· Health insurance subsidy

· 5-day work week
